Fern River Horse Trekking
Tim will take you on a ride you will truly remember
Tim Reuben is what we call a ‘local’ around here and descends from both European and Maori heritage being Tangatawhenua of Te Roroa. Having worked as a stockman for many years using horses as the main means of transport, Tim’s experience ensures a safe and enjoyable experience when trekking with Fern River.
Rides can vary in duration and depending upon the skill of the rider can encompass rides over farmland, hilltops, through the forest and on the beach. Along the way Tim will also share with you the history and stories of the area that have been handed down to him from his forefathers.
In summer rides can be arranged for small children, but riders under 18 must be accompanied by a parent.
Prices vary from around $60 per person for a 1.5 hour hillside and farm ride to $90 per person for a 2.5 hour ride.
Bookings are essential so please let us know on your booking form if you would like to go riding while you are at the lodge. The Fern River stables are located approximately 30 minutes from Waipoua Lodge.
