The four kauri trees known as the Four Sisters in the Waipoua Forest had been thought to be four trees ranging from 200-700 years and which have unusually co-habited. Normally kauri fight for sole survival and light. After research by Dr Johnathan Palmer from the Kauri Museum the four trees are now believed to actually be SISTERS! Dr Palmer says the seeds were produced from the same seed generation. The difference in sizes is explained by varying wind and light conditions and of course dominant siblings! Truly Amazing!
